If you are on the market for some mid-century modern wedding magic, you are in the right place. I am not sure if I’ve ever met a more vibey couple in my whole life than Taylor and Luke. These two hosted a stunning mid-century modern wedding in their dream home (which they happened to snag a few months before this)! No better place to get married in front of all their closest family, than their new home together.
They decked out the living room in stunning florals by The Wild Flower. And when Taylor came out in her custom Cinq gown, all the jaws in the room hit the floor. They had a short ceremony, we took some family photos, enjoyed some fruit punch and had the most tasty cake by Frosted Cakerie in Joplin. Then we knocked out some couples portraits of the two of them all around their home– I know, special, right?
If anyone knows Taylor, they know that she embodies the mid-century style to perfection, and this day was no different. So I wanted to make sure that their photos felt like them! During their portrait session time, I worked on getting a good variety of some classic shots, candids, a few editorial style poses, and unique details photos. The gallery needed to encapsulate who they are and how the day felt. And the fact that Taylor and Luke gave me 100% creative freedom, means the world to me as an artist. I was able to fully let go of any pressure and truly enjoy their day as a guest, friend, and photographer.
After their portraits, we headed over to Christine’s Vineyard for an evening celebration/laid back reception with extended family and friends! It was the perfect setting for their “Summer Soiree” as they so adorably named it. And to top it all off, our adventure does not end there. They’ve invited me on their honeymoon to Ireland to take photos as they partake in a private vow exchange and explore the Irish countryside. So catch us all frolicking through the vast greenness in a few months!
I am sure you’ve seen people bending and breaking all the wedding traditions recently to do what truly makes them happy, and Taylor and Luke are the prime example of that. There are no rules to break– you get to make your own. Make it a day that you are going to enjoy. Make it a day you get to experience together.
Forget about the strict photo timelines and make the day about your marriage and covenant together! Then throw yourself the biggest celebration! Or don’t– skip it all and catch a plane ticket to the mountains, wake up at 4 AM for a sunrise hike and exchange your vows at the top of the Rockies. Whether you throw a mid-century modern wedding or get married at your local courthouse–whatever makes your heart flutter– do that. Follow that feeling. Let go of the pressure that you put on yourself to have the “perfect” wedding and focus more on just doing something that is FUN!
Your wedding is not about the photos. Let me repeat that! Yes, I am a photographer telling you that it’s not all about the photos. Your wedding is about you and the love of your life. The photos are about the wedding, not the other way around. Let me show up to your wedding and document it fully; with love, and passion, and artistic vision, and truth. I am not here to fabricate an image of your wedding that didn’t really exist. I’m here to capture beauty in the truth of it all, exactly as it happened.
